Pillar of Fire
Composed, arranged, and performed by Elizabeth, Track II

"The Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way
and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and
night. The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from
before the people."
- Exodus 13: 21-22 (Amplified Bible)
I was thinking of these verses when I was working on this piece. What do they say about our
God? That He is El Shaddai, He who is more than sufficient for our needs. He gave the Israelites
a guide they could not miss; not in the light of day, or in the dark of night. As long as they
followed it, and Him, they were headed in the right direction, which was the way He had prepared
for them. And He didn't just provide a guide, He also provided protection. In Exodus 14:19-20, the
Bible says the cloud and fire stood between the Israelites and the Egyptians to cover the escape
of the people, on dry ground, through the Red Sea.
Our God is our Guide, our Protector, He who is more than sufficient for our needs if we simply
trust Him to be and have faith that He is. We must not be moved by what the circumstances" look
like". With the Egyptians behind them and the Red Sea in front of them, the situation "looked"
impossible for the Israelites - but God provided a way. He didn't depart from them, and He will not
depart from us. What a comfort! What peace to know that He is always with us, inside us, and will
never leave us nor forsake us. We just must trust Him, and He will deliver us. He will lead us on
safely in the way He has prepared for us, through whatever our "Red Sea" may be, to the victory
waiting for us on the other side.
